Upgrade your swimming pool with help from Charlotte’s best pool builders

LED lighting

pool builders working on a pool upgrade in Charlotte, NC The best pool contractors can offer creative solutions for environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional incandescent pool lights. LED lighting uses a collection of light emitting diodes to illuminate your pool. LED pool lights use 80 percent less energy than incandescent or halogen light bulbs, while lasting significantly longer. It is reasonable to expect an average life span of up to 100,000 for LED lights. They also tend to provide a brighter level of light, which could actually reduce the amount of lights you would need for your pool. The transition from incandescent to LED lighting is not a major undertaking. The majority of LED pool lights simply screw into the existing sockets that are used for traditional incandescent in ground pool lighting.

In addition to being more cost efficient, the main appeal of LED pool lighting is the vast array of built in color features. LED lights are not only available in colors; they also can be directed by programming functions that allow you to change the color of the pool water with the flick of a switch. Some LED light systems come with a selection of preset effects that automatically changes intensity and color. The constant changing of the intensity, color, and duration makes your pool an impressive centerpiece for an outdoor party. On the other end of the spectrum, you can create more relaxing lighting as the backdrop for a romantic evening. You swimming pool contractor can help you design a lighting system that will integrate your pool, spa, and other water features in the backyard. LED pool lighting is typically more expensive than incandescent and halogen lights. However, LED bulbs generally last for 7 – 15 years.

Solar pool lighting

If you want to make your pool even more energy efficient, solar pool lights are probably the most eco friendly solution for providing light to your pool. They are powered by a solar panel that collects energy from the sun, and then charges a rechargeable battery located within the light. The lights automatically turn on by an electronic light sensor. Most solar pool lights use LED bulbs for energy efficiency, and will last up to eight hours on a full charge.

Solar pool lights are available in a variety of shapes and sizes. They can be a simple globe type fixture, or they can be designed to float in the pool. Solar lighting is also offered in many different colors. Solar lighting is extensively applicable for year around use. Many lights come with a stake, pole, or stand that allows them to be used for landscape lighting during the winter months. Solar pool lighting has many benefits. There are no electricity bills, they are relatively maintenance free, and are easy to install. They are not nearly as bright as other lighting options, so you should consider purchasing more units for comparable sized areas.

How to choose a Charlotte pool company with one question

Recognizing reliable pool companies

Charlotte pool builders
Many pool owners wonder how to choose a Charlotte pool company that is reliable and dependable. They hear first hand from neighbors and coworkers who seem to always be expressing dissatisfaction with their pool builders and poll contractors. Regardless if it is a concrete pool, a fiberglass in ground pool, or even an above ground pool; homeowners only have once chance to pick the right pool contractor to dig up their backyard.

Customers often ask the wrong questions

Of course, we have offered advice in previous articles, recommending that customers make sure that the contractor is licensed and insured. They should also ask specific questions about the construction project, such as when will it begin and how long will it take; but these questions do not get right to the heart of the matter. What you really want to know is how skilled and how reliable is this pool company?

The answer lies in one question… “Can I see your references?”

Pool Contractors references

Now the most important factor is how you ask this question. Prospective pool owners must understand that there is more involved than just asking for references. If a pool contractor is consulting with you and giving you a quote for your pool project. Most people will simply ask him for his reference list. Before asking for the reference list, ask him or her how many pools did they install last year? Most pool contractors are able to quickly give you the answer to this question.

Once the contractor has told you how many pools they built and maintained last year, then you ask the sixty-four thousand dollar question; which is, “May I see you reference list from last year?” If they installed 10 pools and only offer a list of five references, then you should assume that they have a 50% satisfaction rate. That is not great odds for the amount of money that you are going to lay down for pool construction and possibly years of regular maintenance afterwards.

Some pool contractors will try to convince you that they are not allowed to give out customer names due to privacy concerns. This is largely untrue unless all his customers are in the witness protection program. .Swimming pool owners have a deep appreciate for good service from their pool builder and will not hesitate to refer them to new customers. If a contractor refuses to give you the references you request, simply move on to someone else in the Charlotte area that is honest and confident with their business. Choosing the best contractor available will save you from unnecessary stress and lost money.

Water Blasting Project at Carowinds, completed by Carolina Pool Plastering of Charlotte, NC

Here is a recent water blasting project at Carowinds, completed by Carolina Pool Plastering of Charlotte, NC.

Through using the water blasting process, Carolina Pool Plastering is able to provide eco-friendly pool surface preparation. This process does not use cleaning agents or abrasive chemicals, such as more traditional methods like sand blasting.

Water blasting is also safer in that it doesn’t spew dust into the air or on nearby surfaces such as cars, windows and your lawn. This high pressure water jet can clean up the coatings, remove any undesirable irregularities in the pool’s surface, and provide a strong and durable bonding.

What does your pool deck look like in Charlotte, NC?

Pool deck choices are almost as important as choosing the type of swimming pool to install in your backyard. Some would even say that a pool deck is the most important choice homeowners will make. Let’s face it: you’re going to spend more time on your pool deck than in the pool, right? So, you want to make sure you choose the right pool deck for your lifestyle and budget.  That’s where pool contractors come in! Trustworthy pool companies like Carolina Pool Plastering in Charlotte, NC, will consider your budget and lifestyle, as well as your swimming pool design and make pool deck recommendations you can trust.

What are my pool deck options?

Pool decks come in all shapes, styles and materials. Depending on how much maintenance you are willing to do, as well as how little, you can get almost any pool deck imaginable. There are standard pool deck options that pool companies turn to, and these are probably the ones with which you are most familiar: concrete, brick pavers, tile, natural stone, and wood.

Concrete can be plain or stamped

Concrete has come a long way as a design option. Pool decks made of concrete are durable, low-maintenance, and budget friendly. Pool contractors like Carolina Pool Plastering can install concrete that is stamped, stenciled, colored, or exposed aggregate. These are all attractive alternatives to plain concrete, and easy to install with almost no maintenance required.

Brick pavers elegant and timeless

Nothing is more elegant than a paved brick walkway. Imagine an entire pool deck of brick pavers; just beautiful! Pool contractors offer the high-end option of brick pavers because of its durability and aesthetic appeal. Brick pavers are a bit more costly than other pool deck options, largely because of its labor-intensive installation. But, when it comes to timeless beauty and stately elegance, there is nothing more attractive than brick pavers around your pool.

Tile wins pool deck popularity contest

Tile is the clear winner when it comes to popularity of pool deck materials! Tiles are attractive, and come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. There are so many options with tile, but homeowners should keep in mind that tile tends to retain heat. In Charlotte, tile may not be the best option for the entire pool deck, especially with its hot summers. That doesn’t mean pool owners can’t incorporate tile into their concrete or brick pavers. Ask your pool contractors from Carolina Pool Plastering in Charlotte, NC how to get the look of tile without sacrificing comfort.

Organic look of wood and natural stone fast becoming trend

Nothing beats the natural look of stone and wood on a pool deck. As pool designs become less geometric and more organic, blending into the natural environment rather than standing out as a focal point, pool decks are following suit. When pool contractors install a pool using shotcrete homeowners can choose pool designs that twist and curve naturally with the landscape, and they look for pool deck materials to also enhance the surrounding flora and fauna. Stone and wood pool decks do this heads and tails above any other materials. Yes, these pool deck options are pricier than concrete. But, when it comes to aesthetics, stone and wood can’t be beat.

If you are ready to discuss pool deck options, make sure you talk to the reliable pool contractors at Carolina Pool Plastering, and find out how you can make the right choice for your pool and budget!

Three things homeowners should look for in Charlotte pool companies

Pool companies are an important part of the swimming pool installation process, but how does a homeowner decide which pool builders to go with, and which ones to drop like a hot potato? There are three things homeowners should keep in mind when choosing their pool contractors: Local, full-serviced, and owner-run.

National pool companies not the way to go

We have all seen the ads for national pool companies, and they make a lot of promises, including cost-savings. Often, these national chains work out of a sales office and contract the work of installing your swimming pool to sub-contractors. Most national pool companies only want to get the sale, and that will be your only contact with them. Once the job is begun, homeowners will have to turn to the sub-contractor to resolve issues, or be referred to other local pool builders for aftercare needs. This can work for some people, but most of us want a more personal approach when it comes to our contractors, especially for an expensive job like pool installation. If there are any disputes with the sub-contractor, the national companies will not have a homeowner’s best interests at heart. They already have their money, so why should they do any more work than necessary? Keep this in mind before choosing national pool companies to install your swimming pool.

Local the way to go when it comes to pool companies!

Local pool companies are a great starting point for Charlotte, NC, homeowners who a ready to install a swimming pool. Local pool builders have a vested interest in protecting their company’s reputation, and will work hard to satisfy their clients. The professionals at Carolina Pool Plastering have worked for years in the area, and have a reputation as one of the best pool companies to do your pool installation.

Full-service pool companies do it all

Full service pool companies are the best when it comes to pool installation, as well as pool remodeling and repair. You want pool contractors who are in charge of the process from start to finish. From the first dig to the final phase of installing a pool deck, you want pool builders who are dedicated to providing the best possible experience. Carolina Pool Plastering prides itself on customer service, and will work hard to make sure you are satisfied with your pool services.

Owner-run pool companies stake reputation on satisfied customers

When pool companies are owner-run and operated, it isn’t just their company on the line; they stake their personal reputation on customer satisfaction, as well. Dave Deaton of Carolina Pool Plastering in Charlotte NC takes pride in providing quality work and some of the best customer service in the Charlotte, NC pool industry. Deaton makes sure that each client is satisfied, and if they aren’t he does his best to make sure he can fix it!

Pool companies are not created equal. When you want a pool remodeling or pool installation, make sure to go local; choose full-service pool contractors; and always opt for owner-run pool companies. Image courtesy of freedigitalphotos.net

Carolina Pool Plastering, one of the Charlotte, NC area’s most reputable pool contractors, has the distinction of being the pool builder to bring the Carowinds Theme Park swimming pool up to ADA compliance. ADA stands for the Americans with Disabilities Act, a civil rights law that prevents the discrimination on the basis of disability. On September 15, 2010, the ADA Guidelines finalized on July 23, 2004 (ADAAG 2004) were signed into law and now require compliance by all Title II (Public Entities) and Title III (Public Accommodations and Commercial Entities). This includes recreation facilities, swimming pools, wading pools and spas.

When one of the South’s hottest theme parks needed to update their pool facilities, they called in the experts at Carolina Pool Plastering in Charlotte, NC, to lend a hand.

What does ADA compliance mean for public and commercial recreational facilities?

The American with Disabilities Act requires all public and commercial recreational facilities, swimming pools, wading pools and spas to be accessible to those who are disabled. Depending on the facility, it could mean installing a chair lift for those in wheelchairs to gain access to the swimming pool, or it could mean an entire makeover in order to be considered an ADA compliant pool.

Carowinds’ swimming pool needed to add ADA compliant lifts and had to refurbish the pool area with a sloping entry into the water. These major enhancements made by the professional pool builders at Carolina Pool and Plastering will greatly improve access to Carowinds’ fun in the sun attractions for those who would otherwise have to watch their friends and family having a good time from the sidelines.

Sloped entries open up water to all

With a sloped entry, those in wheel chairs remain in their chair but are able to enjoy the cool waters of the pool, and enjoy as much splashing and carousing as they like. There are also handrails on either side of the sloped area that allows those who can enter without a wheelchair a safe means of support. These are important features of an ADA compliant pool.

Lifts provide independent access to swimming pool

With lifts, those who cannot enter the water with their wheelchair are able to independently use the lift to gain entry into the water. They should be able to call up the lift by themselves so that they may access and exit the pool without assistance or fear of being stranded. Using the latest plastering techniques, Carolina Pool Plastering in Charlotte NC was able to quickly get the Carowinds’ pool area ready for their busy summer season in no time at all!

Shotcrete popular replastering material

Shotcrete is the method of choice for most replastering jobs. It is aesthetically pleasing, extremely durable, and long lasting. Shotcrete isn’t only for large commercial pool jobs like Carowinds. Many homeowners are choosing Shotcrete for their pool’s interior because of its affordability and ease of application.

If you want to know how to make an ADA compliant pool for your or business, call the professional pool contractors at Carolina Pool Plastering in Charlotte, NC today.
